Dear Editor:

We are well into the baseball season. And what a season it is for the St.Louis Cardinals and their fans!  Recently I was thinking about the game of baseball and realized that how people became Christians in Bible times can be compared to hitting a home run in baseball.

In Bible times, before becoming a member of the Church of Jesus Christ the people heard the word of God,(Acts 2:14-39). They were told about Jesus and how he gave his life for them. Hearing about Jesus can be compared to getting a hit in baseball.

In order to get to first base they be1ieved in Jesus, (Acts 2:37;8:36-38), They believed that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God, that he died for their sins, was buried and rose from the dead never again to die.

To get to second base they were told that they must repent of their sins, (Acts 2:38). This meant not only being sorry for the wrong they had done, but that they must turn their lives around and live for Jesus, taking him not only as their Savior but also as their Lord.

We learn in Acts 8:36-37 that the Ethiopian eunuch confessed Jesus as the Christ, the Son of the Living God.  This confession signifies his arrival at third base, ready to make it home.

The believers made it home by being immersed in water for the forgiveness of their sins  (Acts 2:38), becoming a member of the Kingdom of Heaven. They belonged to Jesus,

“Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God”, What made a person a Christian in Bible times should make one a Christian today, How wonderful to hear the words, “Safe at home”.
